During Picnics
|

| |
- In the summer, when temperatures get very warm, bacteria that cause food born illness can grow very
quickly. Don’t let your picnic get ruined by “bacteria bugs” in your food! To keep food safe try the
following:
- Pack all food that is supposed to be cold right from the refrigerator
- Always use a cooler with ice or an ice pack to keep foods cold
- To keep food dry, fill small plastic tubs or plastic bags withi ice.
- Don’t put the cooler in the trunk of your car. At the picnic, keep it in the shade.
- Keep the lid on your picnic basket. Don’t open it unless you have to.
- Add more ice when it begins to melt.
- In hot weather, food should not sit out for more than an hour.
- Salads made with store-bought mayonnaise are safe if it’s kept cold. Keep them in the cooler.
- Keep hard-boiled eggs in a cooler.
- Wash fruits and vegetables well before packing.
- Pack food that doesn’t need to be kept cold in a clean basket or in a new, unused paper bag.
